Contributor Guidelines


Spot Artists (8)

Spot artists are expected to produce 4-6 fully-colored spot illustrations. Spot illustrations may range from objects (like Zuko's crown) to small scenes (Maiko overlooking the sunset) and should not take up more than one third of a page.

Background of spot art (i.e. the sunset part of the drawing) may span the whole spread.

Six spot artists will be paired with a writer and two will be paired with the formatting mod to create assets that will decorate miscellaneous pages of the zine (i.e. the table of contents, section title page, credit page, forward, end notes).

Writers (6)

Writers will be expected to produce ONE 2000-2500-word, Maiko-centric oneshot that roughly falls within one of the following themes:
Maiko as Childhood Friends
Young Lovers/Partners in Crime
Maiko as Adults/Standing the Test of Time
Alternate Universe/Crossover 1
Alternate Universe/Crossover 2
Alternate Universe/Crossover 3

Spread Illustrators (12)

Spread Illustrators will be expected to produce ONE full-color illustration that spans a double-page spread.

Spreads should also roughly fall within one of the aforementioned prompts.

Page Illustrators (6)

Page Illustrators will be expected to produce TWO full-color illustrations.

Page illustrations should also roughly fall within one of the aforementioned prompts.

Title Page Illustrators (3)

Title Page Illustrators are expected to produce title page illustrations for TWO stories.

Title Page Illustrations should have around 1/3 of the page reserved for the title of the fanfic to be placed by the Formatter later.

Merch Artists

All Page, Spread, and Spot Artists will be given the option to also apply as merch artists during the normal application process.

If accepted as a merch artist. If accepted as a merch artist, you will be offered a selection of merch items to choose to design. (I.e. would you like to design a sticker sheet, or a roll of washi tape?)
